Captured on December 11, 2021, Golden Sentinel shows the St. Joseph Lighthouse illuminated by the warm glow of a winter sunset along Lake Michigan. As waves rolled in from the open lake, bursts of spray caught the golden light, briefly igniting the water and pier in flashes of reflected color. The twin lights stand against a calm sky while the lake remains restless below, waves breaking against the pier and sending plumes of water into the fading evening light. This photograph was created during one of my earliest visits to photograph the St. Joseph Lighthouse, marking the beginning of a long-term effort to document this iconic structure through changing seasons and conditions along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
